trauma informed psychotherapist counsellor miranda egan until now therapy

Q: What is Until Now Therapy?

A: Until Now Therapy is trauma-informed counselling which takes into account a person’s experiences with trauma and uses a sensitive and supportive approach to help them heal. As a trauma-informed therapist, I understand the impact that trauma can have on a person’s life and work to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where they can work through their experiences.

Q: What is trauma?

A: Trauma is any experience that creates a sense of fear, helplessness, or terror. It can happen as a single event or over a continuum of time. It is a physical, psychological, soulful, emotional and spiritual response to the feeling of threat.  It lives within the body and if impacts are not responded to, it can show up in reactivity, and unhelpful coping strategies and mirrors itself in the form of other diagnoses. And it bloody hurts.

Q: Can therapy help with trauma?

A: Absolutely! Therapy is a safe and supportive space where you can work through the impact that trauma has had on your life. I’ll be there to support you every step of the way and help you develop skills and a mindset for managing difficult emotions and memories. With time and effort, it’s possible to heal from trauma.

Q: How does trauma-informed therapy work?

A: In trauma-informed therapy, we’ll work together to explore your experiences with trauma and understand how it’s affected your life. We’ll also develop coping strategies and work on building awareness so you can manage difficult emotions and memories. I will walk with you in your suffering and make space for your pain.  It’s important to remember that healing from trauma is a journey, and you need to take things at your own pace.

Q: Is therapy confidential?

A: Yes, therapy is confidential, which means that what we talk about in therapy stays between us. There are some exceptions to this, like if you’re a danger to yourself or others, but we can discuss these exceptions in more detail during our first session. I am a PACFA Clinician please refer to the PACFA code of conduct to understand what this means for you.

Q: How do I get started with Until Now Therapy?

A: Getting started is easy! Simply book online or send me an email, and we’ll schedule an appointment that works for you. From there, we’ll get to know each other a bit and start exploring the impact that trauma has had on your life. And remember, it’s okay to be a little nervous – that’s completely normal! I’m here to help make the process as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Q: What modalities do you work with?

A: The framework is trauma-informed however I am skilled and practice the following modalities: Mindfulness and self-compassion therapy, and narrative therapy – as we are multi-storied and therefore multi-resourced. Somatic therapies – help you to reconnect with the wisdom of your body and create safety within.  Transactional Analysis – which looks at past patterns/scripts and inner child work. Most of all I am focused on the therapeutic relationship which means my aim is to repair any past attachment injury that may have occurred. If this all feels a bit clinical, don’t worry I promise to make sessions easy, accessible and simple to understand.

Q: Do you accept Medicare MHCP – short answer – N0. However, there any many benefits that this brings, no footprint, no limit to the therapy and I am not limited in how I support you.

I do support people NDIS participants if they are self-managed or plan-managed. I also provide counselling to those who work with Unmind Talk as their EAP.

Q: Do you offer online sessions?

A: Yes, as well as in person I offer online counselling, which means I can support anyone in Australia and often in other countries too.  Please remember I work in AEST when booking appointments.
